In modern times, we use candles for meditation, celebration,ambiance ...to light a path closer to the sacred.
The word candle (candela, from candeo, to burn). Candles are a part of mystical expression as well as used for ceremonial purposes. Many people use their candles In many different traditions, for some lighting candles is a sacred action.
Christ, is "the true light", without him we sit in darkness, unable to move. But when we see his light, we then have a direction- a guide to follow. He is our example and when we follow him, his light burns within us, so that all may know we are children of the light.
Unfortunatly some are complacent within the darkness, because there is no light in them, they hide from God's light.These ones are the children of the deceived and the light causes them pain because they are under punishment and judgement.
Those with the light in them, will try to speak about the true light and show them the path which leads to the light. However, they will not listen, for they have become slaves of darkness and anything that overcomes someone becomes their master. Sin has become their master, thus death is their wage.
The faithful who wish to show special devotion sometimes light a candle to remind us of our true light whom we love because he loved us first. And since a candle can remind us of our majesty Jesus, than it can bring us closer to him because we are loving and worshiping him.
